At Elicié, sustainability is not a campaign — it is the founding logic of everything we make. We believe that true luxury and genuine responsibility are not in conflict. They are inseparable.
We centre our work on three principles: ethically sourced materials, considered craftsmanship, and circular design. Each Elicié piece is built to be carried for decades — not discarded after a season.
How we define responsible luxury
Ethically Sourced Materials
We use only full-grain leather sourced from Leather Working Group (LWG) certified tanneries — the gold standard for traceability, social practices, and environmental impact. Our vegan range is made with plant-based composites: no PVC, no PU, no petroleum-derived synthetics.
Considered Craftsmanship
Every Elicié bag is made in small, independently owned ateliers where fair wages and safe conditions are the standard — not an audit checkbox. We choose craftspeople who approach each piece as a long-term investment, not a production unit. Slow, skilled, built to last.
Circular by Design
Elicié bags are designed for longevity and disassembly. Hardware, lining, and body can be separated for repair or recycling. Through our take-back programme, aged Elicié pieces are assessed for restoration, resale, or responsible material recovery.
The strongest part
of the hide. Used whole.
We use exclusively full-grain leather — the outermost, most durable layer of the hide, left uncorrected and unbuffed. It is the only grade that develops a rich, individual patina over time, growing more beautiful with every year of use.
All our leather suppliers hold Leather Working Group Gold or Silver certification — the most rigorous global standard for tannery sustainability, chemical management, and worker welfare. None of our leathers are sourced from regions at risk of deforestation.
Our leathers are a by-product of the food industry. We do not use exotic skins.
No compromise
on ethics or quality.
Our vegan leather range — including The Sage Tote and the Clair Clutch — is made from a composite of natural rubber and organic cotton. It contains no polyurethane, no PVC, and no petroleum-derived coatings.
The result is a material that is durable, biodegradable at end of life, and maintains the structure and drape of premium leather — without the compromise on texture or longevity that characterises many synthetic alternatives.
For customers who choose vegan, we believe the choice should never mean accepting a lesser product.
What goes into every bag
Full-Grain Leather
LWG Gold/Silver certified. By-product of food industry. No exotic skins. No deforestation-risk sourcing.
Natural Rubber Composite
Plant-derived, no PVC or PU. Biodegradable. Maintains structure and texture equivalent to split leather.
Recycled Cotton Lining
Certified recycled-content yarn. Low-impact dyes. Soft, washable, and durable.
Solid Brass & Zinc Alloy
Chrome-free. Nickel-safe. Heavy-weight for long-term use. Designed to be detached and recycled separately.
Waxed Linen
Naturally wax-coated for water resistance. No synthetic coating. Biodegradable at end of life.
FSC-Certified & Recycled
All packaging FSC-certified or recycled content. Zero plastic wrapping. Dust bags in unbleached organic cotton.

Sustainability does not stop with the product. The way we store, ship, and wrap each order is part of our commitment — because the experience of receiving a luxury piece should not leave a trail of plastic behind it.
We have eliminated single-use plastic at every touchpoint. Orders are packed in recycled tissue, placed in FSC-certified boxes, and wrapped with an unbleached organic cotton dust bag that is meant to be kept and reused.
