Our story

Made for those
who choose well.

Elicié was founded on a single conviction: that buying better is an act of care — for the things you own, for the people who make them, and for what we leave behind. We make bags that are designed to be kept.

The founding of Elicié

A question of what stays.

Elicié began with a question that is easy to ignore: what happens to the things we own? Most bags are not designed to last. They are designed to be replaced — next season, next year, next trend. We built Elicié around the opposite premise.

We spent two years working with small, family-owned ateliers in Europe, studying full-grain leathers, testing hardware, refusing shortcuts. The first collection — the Lune Tote, the Arca Shoulder, the Fil Cardholder — was the result of that process. Not a trend, not a mood board. A decision about what is worth making.

Elicié is for people who think the same way. Who already own enough, but want to own better. Who understand that the most sustainable bag is the one you never need to replace.

Three principles that
guide everything.

I.

Longevity over novelty

We do not design seasonal collections. We design objects. Each Elicié piece is intended to improve with age — the leather develops a patina, the brass deepens, the bag becomes yours. Newness is a poor reason to own something.

II.

Transparency, not marketing

We name our tanneries. We describe exactly what our vegan composite is made from — and is not made from. We do not use the word "sustainable" as a shortcut. We show our work, and we stand behind it.

III.

Buy less, buy better

One Elicié bag, chosen with care, is worth more than ten bags replaced by next season. We actively discourage impulse purchasing. Our take-back and repair programme means that when a bag is done with one owner, it finds another.

Every detail
is a decision.

Full-grain leather is the outermost layer of the hide — the strongest, most durable, and the only grade that develops a true patina with age. We source exclusively from tanneries certified LWG Gold and Silver, which sets the global benchmark for environmental and social standards in leather production.

Our hardware is solid brass, not plated zinc. It will not chip, tarnish poorly, or need replacing. Our lining is recycled cotton. Our packaging is FSC-certified. These are not marketing decisions. They are the minimum we consider acceptable.

The full picture.

I.

Full-grain leather

Sourced from LWG Gold and Silver certified tanneries. The only grade that gets better with age. No corrected-grain, no bonded leather, no compromises.

II.

Plant-based alternative

Our vegan range uses a plant-derived composite with no PVC and no petroleum-based polyurethane. Developed for durability, not as a lower-cost substitute.

III.

Solid brass hardware

All zips, clasps, D-rings, and feet are solid brass. No plating. No flaking. Hardware that will outlast every other part of the bag.

IV.

Recycled cotton lining

Interior linings are woven from recycled cotton. The same smooth hand feel, with none of the virgin fibre extraction.

V.

FSC-certified packaging

Every box, tissue, and card is FSC-certified. No unnecessary fills, no plastic wrapping. Packaging designed to be kept or composted.

VI.

Take-back & repair

We repair every Elicié piece we have ever made. When a bag reaches the end of its life with one owner, we find it another through our take-back programme.

Small ateliers.
Real makers.

We work with a small number of family-owned ateliers. Not factories. Not production lines. Places where the same hands that cut the leather stitch the seams and inspect the finished piece. We visit. We know the makers by name.

This is not a story we tell for marketing purposes. It is a practical prerequisite for the quality we require. Bags that are meant to last a decade cannot be made on a line optimised for speed. They require skill, time, and someone who cares how it comes out.

Our ateliers are partners in the truest sense — some have contributed directly to how Elicié pieces are constructed. We do not publish their details to protect their commercial relationships, but we will always confirm our supply chain to any customer who asks directly.

The Elicié position

"We are not asking you to buy more.
We are asking you to buy once."
